Colder next week with strong winds, overnight frosts and a risk of wintry showers

The cold, sometimes wintry weather continues for the rest of this week. By Friday it should become drier ahead of stormy, wet and windy weather on Saturday. A risk of substantial falls of snow over the hills of northern England and Scotland for several hours on Saturday. Then milder overal with a mixed week ahead.

Saturday 23/11/24
A deep area of low pressure west of Ireland on Saturday. Rain pushing quickly north and east, becoming heavy with widespread gales and a risk of ice. The rain turning to snow for a few hours in northern England and Scotland, quickly turning back to rain at low levels. Rain and strong winds continuing into the afternoon with severe gales in places. Snow over the hills of Scotland until the evening with a substantial depth of snow by evening here. Turning showery in Ireland and milder. Highs at 3C in central Scotland, 15C in southwest England.


Sunday 24/11/24
Showers and rain overnight into Sunday, then a front through East Anglia, southeast and southern England gives a cloudy and wet day here. Sunshine and showers elsewhere, most of the showers in the west. Staying windy. Highs at 10C in Ireland, 15C in southern England, 8C in Scotland.


 


Monday 25/11/24
Low pressure drifts close to western Scotland on Monday. It will be another windy day with showers some heavy and merging to longer spells of rai in the west. Brighter and drier in the east with sunny spells. Highs at 7 to 11C.



 
 
 


Tuesday 26/11/24
Low pressure east of Scotland brings a cooler northwest flow here and some showers. The showers wintry around northern and western coasts and hills. A few showers further south too. Some sunny spells between the showers, the bestin the south. Highs at 5C in northern Scotland, 9C in southern England.


 


Wednesday 27/11/24
A weak ridge of high pressure builds bringing dry and bright conditions. after an early frost. Increasing cloud in Ireland, southern and western parts of England and Wales giving rain here. Highs near 5 to 10C.

Thursday 28/11/24
A milder and unsettled day. Rain or showers clear east, then dry for a time ahead of further heavy showers arriving in the west. Highs at 8 to 14C.
